Enhancing soil water retention and drought resilience

Our laboratory tests have shown that Humify Humus significantly enhances the water dynamics of sandy soils (such as those found in Brandenburg), helping them better withstand dry periods. Infiltration experiments demonstrated a slower percolation rate, allowing more moisture to remain in the upper root zone, exactly where plants can access it most easily through their roots.

Further studies revealed that Humify Humus increases the soil’s water-holding capacity by 25–27% and improves the movement of water through fine soil pores. After ten days of drying, treated soils retained 20–22% of their original water content, while untreated soils held only 4.5%.

These effects are attributed to the hydrophilic functional groups within the humic substances, which attract and bind water within the soil structure. As a result, the soil stays moist for longer, plants experience less drought stress, and irrigation water is used more efficiently.
